"With an MA in International Business Diplomacy and a career in financial services in Washington, DC, I made the unorthodox decision to pick up and move to a small Midwestern town on the Mississippi River. I left my career and life in the big city to dedicate myself to being a solo mom. I began drawing mandalas as a meditation and mindfulness practice when my child was a toddler. Eventually this practice evolved into a small business that has led me down many surprising and delightful paths.
Mandalas speak to me of connections: the ways our past, present and future are entwined, the relationships between our mind, body and spirit, and the interdependence of all things. I draw my mandalas freehand, usually with pen on paper, sometimes with paint or ink on canvas, eggs or some other surface that has grabbed my attention. I incorporate symbols from diverse spiritual traditions and nature motifs, especially plants. For prints I often create a digital background.
I take prints of my drawings and mount them under glass to create my Luna Collection of pendants. More recently I started exploring ways to create mandala pendants in silver and copper. This has evolved into using sterling and fine silver to create jewelry that flows with similar lines and nature motifs as my mandalas, often incorporating a calming natural stone or some glass beads for a pop of color. I want my jewelry creations to be pleasing to the touch as well as to the eye.
Most recently I have moved into painting and exploring expression through abstract multimedia work. I use watercolors, acrylics, inks, pigments, twigs, modeling paste, gold foil and a wide variety of other materials.
Water and nature are themes that run deeply through my creative work, and I am drawn strongly to deep, rich blues and greens. Even when working with copper I often find ways to add some blue and green.
In addition to my creative endeavors I work as a death doula, and I am mom to one fantastic kiddo, two dogs, two cats and a flock of chickens. I also serve on several boards in my communities of La Crosse, WI and Winona, MN. "
